PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio — The Portage Animal Protective League is searching for the person responsible for emaciating a dog so bad that it had to be put down.

On Tuesday, a puppy was found near Lake Street and brought into the shelter.

The puppy was trembling, almost unresponsive, emaciated and in pain.

The shelter named the puppy Hope and staff attempted to warm the puppy up, give her some food and transport her to the vet.

The vet could not get a temperature and attempted to warm the puppy and give her an IV. They said the puppy's outlook was poor, but they were going to try and help her as much as they could.

Hope was mistreated and suffered before being found, according to the shelter.

On Wednesday, she was still not registering a temperature; she was unresponsive and appeared to have had seizures overnight.

The vet and shelter agreed to euthanize her.

The shelter is trying to find the person responsible for doing this to Hope.

They are offering a $150 reward to anyone who leads to that person.
