Ravenna police starting new initiative to help residents prevent crime

RAVENNA, Ohio — Ravenna police are starting a new initiative to help residents avoid crime.

The police department will be putting yellow door hangers on residents doors telling them about something on their property that could possibly make them a victim of crime.

The door hangers will contain information regarding the nature of the possible crime including:
■ Garage door left open.

■ Open or unlocked door or window.

■ Newspapers/mail accumulating.

■ Obscured address/no house number.

■ Valuable property left in plain view.

■ Unsecured bicycle.

■ Non-working security light.

■ Overgrown landscaping.

■ Unsecured vehicle/valuable contents.

■ Other — Comment/ fill in.

The door hanger will also contain the officer's name, date and time the issue was observed in order to reduce crime.

Ravenna police is hoping the new initiative will help keep residents safe.
