RICHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — A man who allegedly told hospital staff he was homicidal and suicidal and then escaped from an ambulance Friday morning has been taken back into custody, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
The man had been voluntarily committed at Wooster Community Hospital but was being transported to another hospital in Columbus when he allegedly threatened the driver en route and escaped on foot wearing a hospital gown, authorities said.
Authorities said the man stole a nearby truck with the license plate MUMSRYD, but he was later found by the sheriff's office, Ohio State Highway Patrol and the U.S. Marshals. The man was taken back into custody and transported to Richland County Jail.
According to the sheriff’s office, the man will be charged with theft of a motor vehicle and menacing.
Because the man has not been formally charged at this time, News 5 is withholding his identity.
