Shelby High School music director charged with rape

A Shelby City Schools teacher has been charged with rape, according to Ontario police. 

On Monday authorities arrested 27-year-old Oyun B. Hyun.

Police said in a news release they received a phone call from Mansfield Ohio Health regarding a rape that had occurred.

According to the police report, authorities were notified about a suicidal man involved in a possible rape.  The report states the man was transported to the hospital and after an investigation, he was arrested and taken to Richland County Jail.

According to school officials, Hyun served as the Director of Instrumental Music at Shelby High School. He is currently suspended. 

Shelby City Schools released the following statement regarding the incident: 

A Shelby City School teacher has been suspended as required by O.R.C. Section 3319.40, pending the investigation of a criminal charge by the Ontario Police Department. 

Specifics regarding the allegations against Mr. Hyun, should be directed to the Ontario Police Department. It is the District's understanding that the investigation involves a report of conduct that occurred off school grounds and off school time. Furthermore, the alleged incident and criminal charge(s) does not involve any current Shelby City School District student or resident of the city of Shelby.
