Jackson Township controversy ends in vote

Posted

Zoning controversy in Jackson Township ended in a vote.

With a 73 percent majority vote on Issue 6, the land in a single-family neighborhood will not be developed with an apartment and condominiums complex.

It took a grassroots movement to prevent the development.

Unhappy residents protested the township with a petition that forced Trustees to put the development as an option on the ballot Tuesday.

The chairmen of the Jackson Township Citizens Action Committee, Mike Warren, told newsnet5.com he hoped the vote meant change in Jackson Township moving forward.

"It sends a message to the trustees, we will not accept just whatever zoning they want to put in place," Warren said.

The builder, Don DeVille, and Township trustees did not get back to NewsChannel 5 for a comment on the vote.
