Posted

Lightning struck Fairless Middle School igniting a fire and closing the school down for Wednesday and Thursday, Fairless Local Schools reports.

Firefighters extinguished the flames quickly, but there was extensive damage to the roof and some water damage inside the building, Fairless schools stated.

A restoration crew is cleaning and preparing the building to reopen.

The reported damage is concentrated in the 8th grade wing of the building. The school system plans to move 8th grade students and staff into Fairless High School classes and said this may be the arrangement for the rest of the school year.

Fairless schools asks that all middle school students report to Fairless Middle School on Friday, including 8th graders.

The high school and elementary school were not affected and remain on normal schedule.
