A second Ohio case of the Zika virus has been discovered in a returning traveler from Haiti, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The man infected is 21 and from Stark County, the Ohio Department of Health reported.
The Ohio Department of Health said the previous Ohio case is not linked to this one. newsnet5.com's Derick Waller learned that woman is no longer infected.
“Given the number of travelers between Ohio and Zika virus-affected countries, it would not be a surprise to see more cases,” said ODH Medical Director Dr. Mary DiOrio. “There is no vaccine available for Zika virus so it’s important for Ohioans traveling to affected areas to take steps to prevent mosquito bites.”
Prior to these two Ohio cases, the CDC was reporting 35 cases of Zika virus in 12 states and the District of Columbia.
