A registered sex offender who was a former teacher was arrested after he got a job at the North Canton Public Library by changing his identity, according to authorities.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jason Mazan, 34, after investigating his employment at the library. When Mazan was hired at the library, he failed to register his employment to authorities, deputies said.

Mazan, a former part-time drama teacher at Green High School, registered as a sex offender several years ago. He was arrested and sentenced in April 2012 after being found with a partially-dressed 14-year-old girl in the car with him. Deputies said the girl was a student at the school where Mazan taught.

Mazan was hired at the North Canton library as a subcontractor in February 2017 but used a false name to hide his identity, authorities said. While employed at the library, Mazan worked with pre-teen and teenage children.

He was arrested and charged with failure to provide a change of address and obstructing justice, both felonies, according to deputies.

The incident is currently under investigation.
