A woman slipped out of her handcuffs after she was arrested and got ahold of a baggie of cocaine, which she attempted to bring into jail with her, according to Alliance police.

Police say they were investigating a theft from Walmart and the theft of a motor vehicle when they found Cortne Grimes in the 600 block of South Liberty Avenue on Monday. Officers say she was in possession of less than five grams of cocaine and 15 milligrams of Oxycodone Hydrochloride.

Officers say she also had a short, cut straw and two rolled one-dollar bills with residue on them. They were used to "snort" cocaine and crushed Rx pills. She had had cigarillos and a marijuana grinder.

Officers found Grimes after she stole a gray 2005 Chevy Equinox. They say she stole the vehicle's key from the victim's key ring.

Grimes also had stolen jewelry from Walmart, amounting to $9.76. She also had a large bag of jewelry taken from the victim's home, also in the 600 block of South Liberty Avenue.

After she was arrested, police say Grimes slipped her hand from her handcuffs while in the back of a police car. She moved the dividing screen and grabbed the baggie of cocaine officers found in her wallet. Grimes hid the cocaine in her pants so that it would not be taken in as evidence, according to police. They say she voluntarily returned the cocaine when she was confronted about her actions.

Grimes was charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors. She was booked in the Stark County Jail after failing to post bond.
