An 8-year-old boy was shot by his 9-year-old cousin in Akron on Sunday, according to police.
Authorities responded around 1 a.m. to the 1200 block of Marcy Street.
According to detectives, the victim and his 9-year-old cousin were playing video games when the 9-year-old went into the kitchen to get some snacks. When the 9-year-old opened the cupboard, he found a handgun and pointed it, firing a shot and striking his cousin in the abdomen.
A 14-year-old came downstairs after hearing the gunshot and went outside and asked someone to call for help.
The victim was taken to Akron Children's Hospital in critical condition.
The shooting remains under investigation. Officers took the gun away from the scene.
