The City of Akron has introduced legislation to raise the age for tobacco sales from 18 to 21.

The city says this legislation, which is in collaboration with the Summit County Public Health Department, is an effort to reduce the negative health consequences associated with smoking, including infant mortality.

Some 292 localities across 19 states, including Cleveland and Columbus, have raised the tobacco age to 21.
