Akron voters approved Issue 4 Tuesday night, which will instate a 1/4% income tax increase to fund police, fire and emergency medical services and roads.
Issue 4 amends the Charter of the City of Akron, adding the additional tax, which will take effect January 1, 2018. This increase is expected to raise about $16 million per year.
The additional funds will also help replace lost revenue from the state and allow the city to make improvements to public safety and roadway infrastructure.
The funds are expected to be divided evenly between police, fire/EMS and streets each year.
