BARBERTON, Ohio — A Barberton Middle School student was apprehended by authorities after he was found to have brought two unloaded handguns to school on Thursday.
The school district has not released the student’s name, age or grade.
The student was taken into custody by the school resource officer and faculty members.
No students were threatened during the incident, school officials said.
The district released a statement on Facebook regarding the incident.
“While we cannot reveal specifics of a police investigation, we can say that the student did not display any harmful intent toward himself or others,” the post stated.
The school district said that after learning about the weapons, the “situation was handled quickly and appropriately.”
“This is why we spend time emphasizing “If You See Something, Say Something” at Barberton Schools. Some of our students saw something, and they said something right away to the right people,” the district said.
