Classes on how to administer Narcan continue to fill up in Akron

Akron Say No to Dope has been assisting residents with Narcan training. The organization typically holds classes on how to administer life-saving doses, on the first Tuesday of the month.

Most months, classes are scheduled for 20 participants, but more people often show up.

"I want to say this is our eighth or ninth class,” said Tugg Massa, with Akron Say No to Dope. "You just don't know where the next person is going to overdose- gas stations, banks, school parking lots."

Massa said once classes fill up, Narcan supply is unavailable, so overflow participants are given prescriptions to fill after completing training.

"The men, you hear them banter ‘let them die,’ they don't really understand what it’s like to be an addict,” said Massa. "I just pray; I pray about it. It’s not getting any easier; we're placing people every day."

Tuesday's class will be held at 6:30 p.m. at 932 Kenmore Blvd in Akron.
