GREEN, Ohio — A Green councilman wants the city to declare racism as a public health crisis.

Matt Shaughnessy drafted up legislation that will be introduced at the next City Council meeting on June 23.

The legislation looks to create a special review committee and focus on what the city can do to mitigate the effects of racism on public health.

“The People of Green were horrified at the brutal death of George Floyd and recognize that words just are not enough to repair the damage of centuries-long racism," Shaughnessy said.

According to the 2010 census, Green's population is 94% white.
