Two dogs, a cat and two chicks are presumed dead after a fire at Arlington Pet Care Tuesday night.
Five agencies responded to the massive fire that ripped through the building on South Arlington Road around 9 p.m.
Officials say, fortunately, it was probably a slow day for the kennel.
"I can only assume, being that it was a week, not a weekend, and before summertime and vacation time starts, that it was probably less occupied than it normally would be," said Sgt. Eric East of the Springfield Township Police Department.
It is unclear at this time what caused the fire but authorities say it started in the boarding area.
The state fire marshal will begin the investigation Wednesday morning.
