Rules of the road for winter weather

Posted

It's probably not your first snowdeo but, before you get back in the saddle, Ohio Highway patrol told News 5 you need to know the winter weather rules of the road. Some of them take effect before you hit the street.

Ohio law says snow must be removed from all windows and car lights.

"If snow and ice accumulates on your vehicle, you can be stopped, you can be ticketed," Sgt. Rob Gable with Ohio Highway Patrol told News 5.

The speed limit also drops in slick conditions. Sgt. Gable said, for your own safety, slow down.

"I saw a lot of people without headlights on," Gable said.

Lights should be on, but not high beams or hazards unless there's an actual hazard ahead.

The entire Ohio code can be found here.
