Schools across Northeast Ohio show support for Dreamers after Trump announces the end of DACA

At schools all across Northeast Ohio, Dreamers are starting the 2017-2018 school year - and unsure if they will be able to complete it.

DACA eased many of the burdens that undocumented immigrants face in higher education. The program gave Dreamers access to in-state tuition and to work legally for higher wages.

Before the White House made its decision on the Obama-era initiative, more than 600 college and university presidents came out in support of DACA. One of those signatures belonged to Case Western Reserve President Barbara Snyder.

In a statement, Case Western said the school will continue to support DACA and that "diversity and inclusion are core values" on campus.

One student said there is a sense of pride attending Case Western, "like, yes, my school sticks up for immigrant students."

Lake Erie College in Painesville echoed a similar message, saying "Dreamers are welcome here."

The White House will phase DACA out over the coming six months. During that time, Cleveland State says the school will "assess the potential impact of this decision on our campus community as we have more details on implementation."
