CLEVELAND — Someone with no heart or soul, at least according to hundreds of Facebook comments, shot and killed a beautiful bald eagle, an emblem of the United States of America, in Erie County, Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission put out an "Operation Game Thief Alert" after a bald eagle was found on July 25 near Hope Cemetery in Elk Creek Township, just over the state border from Ashtabula County.

State Game Warden Stutts responded to the incident and his investigation revealed the mature bald eagle was shot.

While bald eagles are no longer an endangered species, -bald and golden eagles are still protected by multiple federal laws such as the Eagle Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Lacey Act.

The Facebook post by the warden is asking if anyone has any information to call the Game Commission's Northwest Region Office at 814-432-3187.
