The power outage knocked out lights in Aurora Sunday night, meaning someone more than likely used the cover of darkness to break into cars.
"Being robbed in the middle of a horrific storm just seems crazy,” said Renee Hanna.
Hanna lost power to her Aurora home after Sunday’s storm took down numerous power lines.
“Unfortunately, because of the power outage, my garage door was left up overnight, and unfortunately we always have our garage locked and down. We kept thinking that the power is going to come on any minute, and put the garage door down. Unfortunately we went to bed and fell asleep, and they came into the garage,” Hanna said.
The cars were unlocked and someone stole her work laptop and her husband’s wallet.
“It’s a weird feeling. I haven’t been robbed before, so it feels like we have been violated and it’s scary to think that they were bold enough to come into our garage,” Hanna said.
Aurora police reports show more cars were entered on Linwood Lane and Clearbrook Drive.
Incident reports show a homeowner is concerned, because someone stole his garage door opener.
A purse and wallet were stolen from another car.
These thefts come just days after eight other cars were entered or had their windows smashed out.

Aurora police say a camera captured video of a suspicious car, possibly a Honda Civic.
Police also want to I.D. a woman with the words “stay beautiful” tattooed on her arm. They say she used a stolen credit card.
“Well I certainly hope they catch them soon, because it’s a scary feeling knowing they are in our neighborhood where we have lots of kids around, it’s scary,” Hanna said.
Aurora’s Police chief said he believes many of the car break-ins are committed by heroin addicts looking for quick cash.
