It is once again safe to drink the tap water in the town of Hugo after test results released early Saturday by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation found no THC, the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, was ever in the water.

An investigation into the water supply started after a local company testing its water found THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said field testing kits were brought in to check the water supply. Six of the those 10 water samples also tested positive for THC.

The Sheriff's Office announced early Saturday that those test kits provided a false positive result.

Investigators told Denver7 they believe there were signs of possible tampering at Hugo's well No. 1, which has been sealed and secured.

The Sheriff's Office was still investigating the damage that was done to the well.
