Parts of Spirit plane found in the yards of Detroit residents after takeoff

Posted

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating after pieces of a Spirit Airlines plane were found in the yards of Detroit residents after a takeoff from Detroit Metro Airport.

According to the FAA, the Spirit plane took off for Atlanta on Monday night, but experienced an engine failure upon departure. The pilot was able to return to the airport and land without incident.

At first, the FAA said it was believed that pieces from the engine failure were contained to the runway and collected for evidence.

It turns out, the FAA has heard from residents who found additional pieces outside of the airfield. They are collecting those pieces so they can determine if they came from an aircraft and if so, if they came from the same Spirit plane.

The FAA will investigate what happened and why so they don't happen again.

They expect the investigation to take several more weeks before being completed.
