Thompson was on patrol in east Pierce County when a KR2 single engine prop plan had to make an emergency landing due to a fuel system malfunction, according to authorities.
The video shows the trooper driving down the highway when the plan approaches from the opposite direction. Thompson activated his lights and sirens and made a U-turn to follow the plane, authorities said.

The pilot managed to land the plane safely in the middle of the road. No injuries were reported, authorities said.
Troopers helped move the plan off of the road and into the parking lot of a nearby Jiffy Lube.
While on patrol in east Pierce county, Trooper Thompson just happened to be in the right place at the right time and witnessed the plane make an emergency landing. WSP had no prior knowledge of the pilot’s complications. After 21 years with the patrol, this is a first for him. pic.twitter.com/rUwXsLT8ZJ
