COLUMBUS — A Columbus police officer who was critically injured wounded during a shooting early Thursday is out of surgery, Chief Thomas Quinlan said in a Facebook live.
The officer underwent emergency surgery Thursday after he was shot while serving a warrant at around 8:21 a.m. in the 3200 block of Chelford Drive, located in Northeast Columbus.
He is stabilized and as of right now he is expected to survive his injuries, Quinlan said during a live briefing.
“He has a long road ahead. The recovery will be long. This is a dangerous job. We still, despite the COVID crisis, are operating and running under different tactics and policy procedures, still have a job to do and are out there in the community making sure people involved in deadly, lethal drug trafficking are still able to be held accountable.”
According to the Columbus Dispatch, a second officer sustained a hand injury during the incident.
