CLEVELAND — The Browns will face the Broncos with a possible advantage as Denver ruled their starting quarterback Joe Flacco out for Sunday’s game.
Flacco was ruled out Sunday due to a neck injury, according to ABC affiliate ESPN.
Broncos head coach Vic Fangio said that the team is uncertain whether Flacco’s injury will require surgery, ESPN reported.
With Flacco out, Brandon Allen will start for Denver, according to ESPN.
The Broncos are coming off two consecutive losses. They currently sit at the bottom of their division with a 2-6 record.
Allen will make his professional debut after spending the past three years bouncing around teams.
Drafted by the Jaguars, Allen was the third-string quarterback his rookie season before being waived by the team in 2017. He was claimed off waivers by the Rams where he spent every game of the 2017 season on the inactive list and the 2018 season on the practice squad before being released on Aug. 30.
The Broncos claimed Allen off waivers on Sept. 1.
In the Browns' last matchup with the Broncos, they came out on top, 17-16. Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 18 of his 31 passes and threw for 188 yards while running back Nick Chubb carried the ball 20 times for 100 yards.
The Browns will head to Denver to take on the Broncos Sunday in a 4:25 p.m. game at Empower Field at Mile High.
