Mayfield was taken to the medical tent after getting hit just before throwing an interception with 7:05 left in the fourth quarter in the matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Colts' Justin Houston brought Mayfield down hard and Mayfield walked off gingerly, but came back onto the field for the Browns next possession.
Mayfield completed 21 of his 37 pass attempts, throwing for 247 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday.
The interception that came at the same time as his injury was his second of the game.
"He seems to be in great spirits," wide receiver Jarvis Landry said.
When asked if he thinks he'll be able to play next week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mayfield said yes because "mama didn't raise no wuss."
