ESPN: NFL executive takes responsibility for field conditions at Hall of Fame game

ESPNreported Tuesday afternoon that executive vice president Troy Vincent accepted ultimate responsibility for Sunday's playing-field fiasco that resulted in the Hall of Fame Game between the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts being canceled.

In his statement, Vincent said that the league did not give the paint supervisor specific instructions, but that the supervisor gave them the confidence that he knew the proper procedure for the field.

Field maintenance and Hall of Fame officials were scrambling late Sunday to try and fix issues with the field, which appeared to stem from the melting of paint at mid-field and in the endzone, leading to a rubbery surface. Although they initially said that they would still do pre-game ceremonies and that the game would be a glorified practice, it was ultimately canceled.
