Lauren Hill, a Mount St. Joseph's University basketball player whose brain cancer diagnosis inspired her to raise money for medical research, will posthumously join the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.

In a news release announcing the incoming class of inductees, the hall of fame described Hill as a "courageous" young woman who "drew the admiration of people all over the United States" when she sunk two layups in front of a sellout crowd in her first collegiate game.

Her efforts to raise awareness evolved into a major fundraising campaign called The Cure Starts Now, which raised millions to fight the condition with which she had been diagnosed: Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, an aggressive type of tumor that grows at the base of the brain.

After her April 10, 2015 death, Hill was honored by the ESPYs, the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
