Recycling at Lowe-Volk Park
Saturday, August 13, 9 a.m. to Noon
The Colonel Crawford Lions Club and The Friends of the Crawford Park District will have a RECYCLE DAY, from 9am to noon at the Lowe-Volk Park Nature center located at 2401 State Route 598.
We will have a RECYCLE DAY the second Saturday of each month through the year.
Gather all of your recyclables and bring them out to the Lowe-Volk Park Nature Center on Saturday from 9am to Noon.
We will be accepting:
Cardboard
Clear/brown/green/blue glass (separate by color)
#1 (PETE) plastics
#2 (HDPE) plastics (colors do not have to be separated)
Newspaper/magazines/office paper/junk mail
Steel cans
Aluminum cans
Household batteries
eyeglasses
CFL lightbulbs - from households only, no businesses please
Laptops, tablets & cell phones.
No Electronics - No Computer Towers - No Computer Monitors -Or- Televisions!
Any recyclables taken to the Crawford Park District, outside of the second Saturday of every month do not get credited to the Park District. If you would like the money generated from recycling to go to them, you must take your recyclables to the Park District during their monthly collections. Lowe-Volk Park is located 3 miles north of US Route 30. For more information contact the Crawford Park District office at 419-683-9000. Get your fingers wet as we take a close-up look at the creatures that live in the summer pond. For ages 4 - 6. A parent or guardian is required to attend programs with participating children. Location given upon registration. To register call 330-657-2796 ext. 100.
Civil War Reenactment
Saturday, August 13 & Sunday August 14, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Hale Farm & Village
Hear the sounds of battle and smell the gunpowder at one of the largest Civil War reenactments in Ohio. Shake hands with President Lincoln or shop for a hoop skirt. Hike Aboard!
Sunday, August 14, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Ira Trailhead

Summer Photo Hike
August 13 at 9 to 11 a.m., South Chagrin Reservation, Squaw Rock Picnic Area,
Capture nature’s summer sights with your camera as we hike along the scenic Chagrin River. We will stop along the way to see the famous Henry Church Rock and admire a bit of folk art. Terrain Difficulty: stairs, narrow trail, up to 1.5 miles. Phone: 440-473-3370. Free.

Ashland County Parks
The Ashland County Park District (ACPD) is currently composed of 16 parks—each has natural features that make it distinct—including old-growth forest, native grassland, restored wetlands and spring-fed ponds. The Water Carnival will give you an opportunity to focus on the importance of water in an ecosystem and to have a great time getting wet during water games! There will be fire trucks, a bicycle that goes across water, a slip and slide, and much more! There will be food concessions. Come ready to get wet and to have great family fun! Perseid Meteor Shower Watch

The annual Perseid Meteor Shower is at its peak! Do you need a great spot to watch the show? Join us at the Castalia Quarry for a perfect view of the night sky and watch meteors zoom across the sky! Please bring a chair. Binoculars will be provided.

Spend the night enjoying the Perseid Meteor Shower and amazing nocturnal wildlife, including night-flying moths attracted by our black-light or mercury vapor lamps! Best meteor viewing should be 1-3 AM. Partially wheelchair/stroller accessible.

Super Star Party
Saturday, August 13, 8 p.m. to midnight, Penitentiary Glen Reservation
Have fun with astronomy while looking up into the sky at the annual Super Star Party. It’s a celebration of astronomical proportions! Stargazers of all ages can catch a good view of the Perseid Meteor Shower. Also, see the moon, planets, stars, and solar system with telescopes and expert guidance provided by the Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society (weather permitting). All aboard for a ride on a miniature steam engine as you take the “Red Light Express Train Ride.” Trains are provided by the Lake Shore Live Steamers and ride times are selected at registration. Shooting Stars and Beating Wings
Saturday, August 13, 9 a.m. to noon, Wolf Creek Environmental Center, 6100 Ridge Road
Even without much light, there are all sorts of things to see in the park after dark. This is the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower as well as a great time of year for a variety of moths. Come out tonight to learn about and enjoy them both. Bring a flashlight for the moths and a chair or blanket for the meteors. The park will close at midnight. Free.
