Buckeye Trail Association New Chapter Kick Off
Saturday, July 16, 3 to 4:30 p.m., North Chagrin Reservation, Nature Center, 3037 SOM Center Road, Willoughby Hills, OH 44094
Come learn about the brand-new Crooked River Chapter of the Buckeye Trail Association!  The new chapter will promote the Buckeye Trail throughout northeast Ohio with volunteering, hiking, and having fun with fellow hikers in our own backyard.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad National Park Scenic Day Pass and Bike Aboard!
Saturday & Sunday, July 16 & 17.
View wildlife and scenery in the comfort of our climate-controlled train cars. Get on and off at any station. Spend a whole day exploring or just a few hours. Fee (coach): $18 adults, $13 children ages 3 - 12. Includes the Voices of the Valley audio tour. Or cycle the Towpath Trail in one direction and hop on the train to go back. Hike Aboard!
Sunday, July 17, 9:25 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., Peninsula Depot.

Kite Flyers Weekend: Maumee Bay

Woodlands of Bedford: Summer Sagamore Creek Walk
Saturday, July 16, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Bedford Reservation, Alexander Bike Lot
Enjoy a slow exploration of this cool, rocky creek with Fred Losi. We’ll travel directly in the stream, exploring features such as a remote waterfall, and the Cuyahoga River confluence. Wear wettable shoes and clothing and bring water and a light lunch. 216-206-1000. Free.

Crawford County Parks

Archery Games
Friday, July 15, 6 p.m., Unger Park, 1303 Bucyrus Nevada Rd.
Join Crawford Park District Naturalist, Lisa Bogard for some archery games.  We will have friendly competitions to see who has the best aim.  Some games will be Tic Tac Toe, popping balloons, and getting the most points on the target.  All ages are welcome, and no prior experience is needed.  There will be time in the beginning for instructions and practice.  All necessary equipment will be provided.  Unger Park is located just west of Bucyrus on Bucyrus-Nevada Road.  For more information contact the Crawford Park District office at 419-683-9000.   Look for information on other programs offered by the Crawford Park District by visiting their web site.

Habitats Revisited Van Trip: Hyde Property
Saturday, July 16, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., The West Woods, Nature Center Parking Lot
This is the third of four visits to the Hyde property to see it in its summer wardrobe. A variety of habitats provide an opportunity to explore and observe the seasonal changes in the plant and animal life that call this area home. There are no trails but the terrain is fairly flat and open. There is potential for wet spots and poison ivy so sturdy hiking shoes/boots are recommended (no flip-flops). Dress for the weather and pack a lunch. We will leave from The West Woods at 9:30 a.m. and return by 1 p.m.

Ice Cream Weekends
July 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, 31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Lake Metroparks Farmpark
Celebrate National Ice Cream Month at Farmpark’s Ice Cream Weekends. Try your hand at making ice cream and meet the dairy cows that produce milk and cream. Find out where your favorite ice cream flavor comes from. Enjoy an ice cream sundae (additional charge applies) and participate in old fashioned games, crafts, and more. Visit the hands-on Cow to Cone Indoor Play Area to discover how the ingredients in ice cream go from cow to cone; play area open July 2
through September 4, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Regular Farmpark admission applies.

Hiking for the Health of It

This is a hiking club for those adults who can hike four to five miles at a brisk pace.  Walking trails can be mildly strenuous with a limited amount being off trail. Please dress for the weather, and be sure to have appropriate footwear. Ages 10 to adult. No registration required. Free.

K 9 Search & Rescue Demonstration  
Sunday, July 17, 2 to 3 p.m., Hubbard Valley Park
North Central Ohio K 9 Search & Rescue Team will demonstrate how its specially trained dogs are used to track and find missing persons in a variety of environments, both urban and rural. This presentation will be interactive, with members using their K 9 pals and the audience. Please do not bring your own pets. All ages welcome. No registration required. Free.
