The Cavs lost last year in the NBA Finals. This year they continue their pursuit of a championship.
DJ Steph Floss, the Cavs in-house DJ, knows what it's like to fall short of a goal and continue a journey one year later.
"You start thinking, What am I doing? Why am I doing this?" The East Cleveland native told newsnet5.com's Lauren Brill.
Floss was not referring to the Cavs pursuit of a title but his own journey in completing the Cleveland half marathon. He attempted it last year but did not complete the race.
"I was doing a half marathon, 13 miles I was almost done, passed out cold at the 11.5-mile mark, unconscious for like ten minutes," He recalled.
This year he returned to the Cleveland half marathon determined to finish the race in honor of his friend, former Ohio State Buckeye WIll Smith, who was shot and killed last month in New Orleans. Floss used the race to raise money for Will Smith's Foundation, Where There is a Will There is a Way.
"I went to the Ohio State University with him. He was a great friend of mine. I am actually running in remembrance of him and running out of his memory," said Floss.
As the entire city of Cleveland has their eyes on the Cavs, the team still took the time to support their favorite DJ in his journey.
"They encourage me and I am going to make sure I finish this time but you guys make sure you finish the things you need to do as well," Floss explained.
As the DJ met his goal and the Cavs prepare for the Eastern Conference Finals, they may be both taking different courses than they originally planne. But all that matters is that they ultimately find their way to the finish line."
"The Cavs have unfinished business. I have some redemption that I need to get."
Floss is raising money for Will Smith's foundation through his own foundation, Steph Floss Foundation.
