CARSON, Calif. — If you hadn’t heard the news that 54-year-old Mike Tyson is returning to the ring for an eight-round exhibition in September, there’s even stranger news to report surrounding the fight—news that involves a former NBA player as well as Westlake native and YouTube star Jake Paul.
Paul, 23, will reportedly be fighting former NBA point guard Nate Robinson, 36, on the undercard of the Tyson vs. Roy Jones fight slated for September 12, according to Robinson.
Robinson, who played in the NBA from 2005 until 2015, told The Athletic’s Shams Charania that he wanted to show that he’s a “world class athlete” by making his boxing debut.

“I played college football, played in the NBA for 11 years, and I’m excited for this venture into the sport of Boxing. Jake Paul, I want all the smoke,” Robinson said.
This will be Paul’s second boxing match. He won his first match in 2018 after five rounds against fellow YouTube star Deji.
“I am excited to partner with Triller and get in the ring to fight an elite athlete. But make no mistake, on September 12th, Nate will meet the canvas early,” Paul said.
Paul, the Westlake native who rose to fame after posting videos on the defunct app Vine, continues to be the center of strange and controversial stories, including recently being charged with criminal trespass and unlawful assembly for allegedly looting a mall in Scottsdale, Arizona during George Floyd protests and holding a large party in Calabasas, California in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The fight, which will be broadcast on pay-per-view and the multimedia platform Triller, will be sure to draw in viewers as it not only features the strange fight between Paul and Robinson, but also the return of Tyson, who after 15 years has decided to come out of retirement to fight a 51-year-old Jones.
