Although the weather was seemingly sunny Sunday afternoon, weather conditions could rapidly change over the next few hours.

Temperatures were warmer than expected - climbing into the middle 60s, and this has allowed the atmosphere to heat up and become unstable.

A cold front is headed our way Sunday evening, which could cause storms to develop.

RISK LEVEL

Storm Prediction Center has put the Cleveland area in a SLIGHT RISK for severe storms.  This is a Category 2 out of 5.  The main threat will be damaging wind gusts around 60-65 mph.  But small hail will also be possible along with a low threat for a tornado.

TIMING

Storms have already developed west of Cleveland and will move across Northeast Ohio through about 8 p.m.  There probably won’t be a lot of lightning with these storms, but some very strong winds may develop along with an isolated tornado.  If this line of storms develops, it would likely be west of Cleveland around Sandusky and Norwalk around 5 p.m., Cleveland and Ashland around 6 p.m. and Ashtabula, Akron, and Canton around 7 p.m.  The line would most likely be exiting the area between 8 and 9 p.m.

TEMPERATURES

Temperatures will get colder overnight dipping to the upper 30s to low 40s behind the front.
