PEPPER PIKE, Ohio — Labor Day was marked by torrential rainfall and flooding in spots across Northeast Ohio, and body camera footage from Pepper Pike shows just how deep that water was in some areas when police had to rescue a stranded motorist in high water.
According to police, the department received several calls for cars stranded in flood water across the city.
One such vehicle was found sitting in water so deep that more than half the car was submerged. Water was up to the headlights and rising fast.
The video shows Sgt. Dietz wade into the nearly waist-deep water to help the motorist. Initially, the driver said he couldn’t get the door open and the officer would need to break a window.
Rather than damage the car (any further than the water had), the officer was able to get the door open and help the driver out.
