AKRON, Ohio — An iconic Akron restaurant is doing what it can to help feed some of the hardest working people who help keep the country running.

Bob’s Hamburg has been in business since 1931 and a pandemic hasn’t slowed them down one bit. During these difficult times, many are worried about essential workers who can’t shelter in place because their job is literally on the road—truck drivers.

Knowing truck drivers are a critical component on keeping our country running, and seeing some food stands unable to serve them through drive-thrus due to the size of their vehicles, Bob’s Hamburg invited any truck driver to pull their big rigs up to the small establishment and they would serve them from where they could park.

The Akron hamburger joint invited truck drivers to pull their 18-wheelers right up the front of the building and said they can wrap multiple trucks around the buildings as well so the drivers can stop and pick up breakfast, lunch or dinner without worry.

In addition to accommodating semi-trucks, Bob’s Hamburg is also offering a fun discount for truck drivers.

Anyone who honks the horn on their big rig will receive 10% off their order, according to Bob’s Hamburg’s Jeremy Caudill, also known as “The Bossman.”

“We had a trucker who just called up and he said ‘How much room do you have?’ and we just say ‘Just pull on in, we’ll fit you,’” Caudill said.

Bob’s Hamburg, located at 1351 East Avenue in Akron, serves up classic burgers, fries and milkshakes among many other options on the menu. The 89-year-old hamburger joint even has the original grill from 1931 in the building, providing a splash of nostalgia to diners.
