He's an eight-year-old with a huge heart.

Braxton Lee is running his way through life to help others.

The boy from a small town in Virginia began running races when he was just six years old. It started after he spotted a fundraising poster in a fast food restaurant for Virginia State Trooper Chad Dermeyer.

Dermeyer was shot and killed at a Greyhound bus station in May of last year.

That's when Lee knew he wanted to put others first. So his father, Jarret, told him to write down what he'd like to do to help.

"He wrote a letter to Mrs. Deremeyer saying he wanted to run a marathon for her husband," Jarret said. "Obviously, we couldn't let him run a full marathon so we broke it up."

That summer Lee ran nine races and raised nearly $4,000 for the Dermeyer family.

"I wanted to help his family always remember him," Lee said.

That's when his love for running for the fallen blossomed.

“It makes me feel really good and helpful," he said.

Lee has now competed in more than 80 races in several different states to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, including the Akron marathon.

Lee ran as part of a relay team in the 15th annual race alongside retired state troopers from the Buckeye state.

During his trip to Ohio he brought a gift -- a police flag with the names of all Ohio officers killed in the line of duty dating back to 1823.

"I just want them to forget about the sad part of what happened. I want them to remember their names," Lee said.
