A Tallmadge man is facing charges in connection with a crash that killed an Akron teen on Interstate 76 Easter morning.

Charles Queer Jr., 63, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, failure to control, OVI and OVI-BAC.

Akron police say Queer was driving a 2015 Chevy Equinox when he rear-ended 17-year-old Patricia Powell, who was pulled over on the shoulder of I-76 near the South Arlington Street exit. Powell died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Powell's mother told newsnet5.com her daughter pulled over to the side of the road when her car overheated while driving home from Wal-Mart. She was waiting for a friend to pick her up when her car was struck.

The junior at Ellet High School was very involved and well liked in school, her mom told newsnet5.com's Bob Jones shortly after her death. She played in both the band and orchestra and participated in National Honors Society, student council and key club. She was on this year's homecoming court and had been accepted to University of Akron to start early college classes.

Police said Queer's BAC was .204, more than two times the legal limit.
