Tony Bennett, the last of the great saloon singers from the mid-20th century, died Friday. He was 96 years old.

Bennett's publicist, Sylvia Weiner, confirmed his death on Friday, saying he passed away in his hometown of New York.

Bennett was well-known for songs like "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" during a decades-long career that brought him admirers like Frank Sinatra and, most recently, Lady Gaga. His last public appearance came in August 2021 when he participated in a joint concert with Gaga. Their Radio City Music Hall performance was later aired on CBS in November 2021.

No specific cause of death was given, but Bennett was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2016.

That year, he joined Gaga in releasing a new album, "Love for Sale." By doing so, he became the oldest person ever to release a record with new material.

Breaking story will be updated.
