If you’ve ever found yourself out and about in the winter wishing you had a steaming cup of coffee to warm you up and energize you, there’s a new product on the market that will make that happen no matter where you are.

The new Self-Heating Can from High Brew Coffee takes cold brew coffee and turns it warm with the twist of the cap. Available online for $20 for a four-pack, the can works when you twist the bottom, wait two minutes, then gently shake it. Then, just pull the tab and you now have a warm cup of coffee regardless of what you’re doing or where you are.

The company is sold out of the product as of Jan. 29, but don’t worry! Over Twitter, High Brew Coffee has promised these self-heating cans will be back very soon.

Each can has 200 milligrams of naturally occurring caffeine and no dairy or sugar. That means it is a bold, black coffee, so if you’re one for using a lot of cream and sugar or prefer flavored lattes, you may not enjoy it.

While you can simply take a can with you while running errands and enjoy whenever the mood strikes you, you may also want to consider packing some if you’re going camping, taking a hike or heading out for a winter adventure like skiing or sledding.

While this appears to be the only self-heating coffee can currently on the market, La Colombe had their own version of the product using the same technology, called HeatGen, but it looks like they are no longer making it.

Self-heating packaging overall is not a totally new technology, however, as there are some other foods you can buy that will also heat themselves up, like these pizza and pasta meals on Amazon (currently unavailable) that heat right in the bag.

The same brand, Omeals, offers a whole line of self-heating products on their website, including breakfast foods like oatmeal and hashbrowns, dinners such as stews and chilis and even desserts like brownies and cookies.

Of course, if you don’t mind your cold brew coffee being, well, cold, High Brew has a variety of flavors that don’t heat up, including many available in grocery stores nationwide. They even have some with added protein and a triple shot espresso that has three times the caffeine of a regular cup of coffee.

Will you be trying self-heating coffee or sticking with canned cold brew?
