CLEVELAND — On Monday, 20 local chefs from the Cleveland area filled the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse for a food competition to be recognized as the best black-owned restaurant, food truck or catering service in the city.
The chefs prepared their signature dishes for guests to sample and vote on based on quality, variety and presentation. Chefs participating in the event said it was a great way to get their names out there while also supporting black-owned businesses.
Ricardo Newell of Gourmet Gent Culinary Services and Supply Co. said the event allows individuals to represent dishes that are within the African diaspora, and it's just a unique opportunity to build and connect with individuals in the community.
The culmination of the event ended with three winners:
- Third Place went to Sub City Restaurant
- Second Place went to Cleveland Mofongo
- First Place went to Floods Urban Seafood Lounge.
