AVON LAKE, Ohio — They come from near and far to see Avon Lake’s holiday lights.

"It’s beautiful,” said Avon Lake resident Caitlyn Gibbs. "The lights are amazing, it’s so awesome to see how far everybody goes.”

This year the tradition keeps going despite the pandemic. In 2020, the Avon Lake Holiday Lights Tour is going self-guided.

"You can play Christmas music while you’re walking around, sing some holiday tunes,” said Gibbs.

Everything starts and ends at Veterans Memorial Park.

The city of Avon Lake put together a map using a combination of past tours and new light displays.

As folks are walking the loop to see the lights, which stretch about a mile and a half, they also can go on a scavenger hunt using a different map.

"It’s super awesome that the city’s putting that on for us and giving an activity to go outside and still be with our families,” said Avon Lake resident Skyler Shagovac.

You'll have to be on the lookout for 12 different holiday-themed characters during the scavenger hunt, and if you find them you could win a prize.

There is also a scavenger hunt to find holiday characters.

"Anything to get out with these two and have an activity that I don’t have to plan,” said Shagovac.

It’s a pandemic-friendly way to keep that holiday spirit bright.

"It’s really great that we’re still able to do something as a community that’s safe and really kind of inspires us to stay in the holiday spirit,” said Gibbs.

The lights tour and scavenger hunt officially start Black Friday.
