The BEST Memorial Day sales and deals for 2016

Posted

If you haven't been shopping much lately because the deals haven't been that great, you are in luck.

Memorial Day weekend brings the biggest sales since Presidents Day, way back in February.

If you are looking for furniture, beds or spring clothing, this is a great weekend to shop (look below for the biggest sales this weekend).

It also brings some of the first markdowns in 2016 of barbecue grills and patio furniture. (However, DealNews.comsays if you can wait till mid-July, you will find much bigger markdowns.)

This weekend also brings lots of special deals and freebies for those who have served our country.

Restaurant Freebies for Veterans/Active Military

As as way of saying "thanks for all you have done for our country," the following restaurants are offering specials for veterans and active military members:

Red Robin:  Free appetizer with any $10 purchase all weekend. You must first be a Red Robin Royalty member, sign up free at their website.

Hooters: 10 free boneless wings with any drink purchase for military and their spouses on Monday.

Shoney's: (Southeastern US only): Free burgers for Veterans

Other Deals for Veterans/Active Military

Free Theme Park Admission  for Veterans and Active Military atKing's Island, King's Dominion, and several other theme parks around the country

Sears: 40% off tools on Monday for Veterans and active military.

Home Depot: 10% discount for Veterans this weekend.

Lowe's: 10% discount for Veterans this weekend.

Sales for Everyone

The money saving site DealNews.com says Memorial Day brings some great sales, and you don't have to be a member of the military to enjoy the savings.

At the mall, you'll find sales in Macy's, JCPenney's, Kohl's, and most smaller stores. Look for bonus coupons in the newspaper or your mailbox.

Sears is having a Memorial Day blowout, with 30 percent off many appliances.

Walmart and Kmart both have a sale on patio furniture, one of the first of the year.

Lowes has 10 percent off major appliances.

Home Depot has discounts on f select Behr paints.

Ace Hardware has bonus Gift Cards with a Weber Grill purchase (like Apple products, stores are not allowed to discount current year Weber items)..  Plus Ace rewards members get special discounts.

Furniture Stores are running big sales on mattresses and other furniture.

But Wait on Laptops, Swimsuits, Lingerie

Memorial Day, however, is not the best time to buy laptop computers and school supplies.

Deal News says those will all be marked down in July for back to school, so it can pay to wait.

Swim suits are also fairly pricey right now: the big sales start on the 4th of July.

And lingerie goes on sale in June, with Victoria Secret's semi-annual sale, and many other stores matching their markdowns.

As always, don't waste your money.
