CLEVELAND — Giant Eagle confirmed it will limit the amount of meat products a customer can purchase at any given time after it noticed an increase in demand among customers, the grocery store chain said in a statement to News 5.

To discourage bulk purchases, Giant Eagle is temporarily limiting the number of ground beef and advertised meat products customers can purchase at once.

In a single transaction, guests are able to purchase two packages of ground beef and up to two of each meat item advertised in their weekly circular.

“It is important to note that these temporary purchase limits are not indicative of meat supply issues but are based on increased demand by some guests. We work with several suppliers to provide our guests with a wide variety of options, which helps us maintain consistent product availability,” said Jannah Jablonowski, a spokesperson for Giant Eagle.

Giant Eagle said this move will help maintain consistent product availability for all customers during the pandemic.
