COLUMBUS, Ohio — While statewide and in Cuyahoga County, the number of new COVID-19 cases is up from the previous two days, Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton said we are still, by and large, in the “plateau” phase of the spread of the disease.

The chart below shows the number of new coronavirus cases reported each day in Ohio:

There are currently 24,777 total cases in Ohio as of Monday, an increase of 696 from Sunday, and the highest number of new cases since May 8. Similarly, in Cuyahoga County, the number of 66 new cases reported Monday is the highest since May 8, adding to the county’s total of 2,861.

Acton said she still considers the state to be in the plateau phase of the spread of the disease, meaning that while there are more new cases each day, the number of these new cases is not increasingly significantly, on average.

Cleveland reported 28 new cases on Monday, bringing their total to 978.

Also of note was a change to the date of the onset of the disease in Ohio. Acton said Monday that there were five cases of the disease in five different counties in Ohio in January, over a month before the first three lab-confirmed cases were found in Cuyahoga County on March 9. This new earlier onset was confirmed by a new antibody test that the state is running.
