SANDUSKY COUNTY, Ohio — A 53-year-old Michigan man was killed in a crash on the Ohio Turnpike near mile post 88 in Rice Township, located in Sandusky County, according to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened on Tuesday at around 4:34 p.m., when a white semitractor-trailer was traveling eastbound in the center lane and drove off the left side of the road, striking a wall before overturning.
The trailer separated from the tractor, which went over the wall and came to a rest blocking all three eastbound lanes. The semi-tractor continued along the median and came to rest after hitting a bridge pillar.
The driver was identified as a 53-year-old from Columbiaville, Michigan. He was alone in the truck and was pronounced dead on scene. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
The driver's name is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
It’s unknown if drug or alcohol use contributed to the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
