AKRON, Ohio — One person in Akron is having a lucky start to 2026.
Outside the Acme Fresh Market on Manchester Road, customers were surprised to learn that someone became $1 million richer after buying a winning Powerball ticket there.
"That's amazing. I hope somebody definitely gets that because with this economy today we could definitely use it," Akron resident Lenora Capers said.
Saturday's white Powerball numbers rolled in as 5, 64, 19, 28 and 21, with one Acme customer hitting all five of them. The red Powerball number was 14.
"It's always exciting when somebody here in Ohio wins a big prize. A million dollars is definitely nothing to sneeze at," said Ohio Lottery Communications Director Danielle Frizzi-Babb.
According to the Ohio Lottery, the player used auto-pick, letting a computer generate the winning numbers. However, the ticket has not been claimed yet, and the commission is waiting for the owner to come forward.
The winner has 180 days to come forward.
After taxes, they will take home $732,500.
"The next step is, of course, this person realizing that they have won and bringing their ticket into us so that they can make their claim. We never know who a winner is until they come forward to claim the prize," Frizzi-Babb said.
The Ohio Lottery said there have been 37 $1 million Powerball winners since January of last year, and another drawing is Monday night.
