A 15-year-old boy is facing charges after authorities found a loaded handgun in his locker at an Akron high school.

On Thursday, a female student called her mother after hearing about a possible gun at Buchtel Community Learning Center on Copley Road.

The mother called school resource officer Howard Vaughn to report the weapon, along with a description of the boy who may have been hiding it. The school was placed on a temporary lockdown.

Vaughn found a loaded 9mm handgun in the student's locker on the second floor. The weapon was in his backpack. It had one bullet in the chamber and four bullets in the magazine.

The student was taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and inducing panic.
