AKRON, Ohio — A high school football player from Massillon has been charged for allegedly attacking a man on a bicycle earlier this year, according to the Akron Police Department.

The 17-year-old is charged with felonious assault.

According to Akron police, the assault happened Aug. 4 in a parking lot of a fast food chain in the 600 block of North Howard Street.

Police said the victim was riding through the parking lot when he was approached by the teen and punched in the head.

When police arrived at the scene, officers found the man unconscious and bleeding. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the man sustained a skull fracture and brain bleed from striking his head on the pavement when he fell off the bicycle. He was hospitalized for more than a month and still suffers from a brain injury.

The teen was arrested Thursday following an investigation into the incident.
