2 people shot, killed in two separate shootings in Akron on Sunday

AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Police Department and the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating two separate shootings that left two people dead Sunday night in Akron.

The first shooting happened at about 10:00 p.m. on East Mapledale Avenue in Akron.

A 22-year-old man was reportedly in an altercation with another person on East Mapledale Avenue in Akron when he was shot multiple times, according to a release from the medical examiner's office.

The 22-year-old man was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:28 p.m.

Detectives from the Akron Police Department issued an aggravated murder warrant for Jovonta Moore, 23, who has a last known address on East Archwood Avenue, according to a release from police. Moore is 5 feet 9 inches and is approximately 230 pounds. He is considered armed and dangerous.

The second shooting also happened at about 10:00 p.m.

A 25-year-old man was shot while sitting inside his vehicle, which was parked in the 1000 block of Yale Street in Akron, the medical examiner said. He was found in the driver's seat of a 2018 Infiniti with an apparent gunshot wound to his head, according to Akron police.

The 25-year-old man allegedly drove to Yale Street to sell an unknown person marijuana, police said. Authorities said the unknown person took the marijuana and fled the area. He was last seen in a gray 2017 Dodge Charger.

The 25-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene at about 10:31 p.m., authorities confirmed.

Authorities are not releasing the victims' names until the next-of-kin is notified and positive identification has been made.
