52-year-old woman found shot, killed inside Akron home after she didn't show up for work

Police looking for 'armed and dangerous suspect'

AKRON, Ohio — A 52-year-old woman who had been shot dead was found inside her Akron home on Wednesday morning, according to a joint release from the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Akron Police Department.

Twyla Pettiford, 52, of Akron, was found by police inside a home in the 1700 block of Manchester Road in Akron.

Her family said that after she didn’t show up to work Wednesday morning they called police. The police did a welfare check at around 11:30 a.m. and found Pettiford with multiple gunshot wounds.

She was pronounced dead at the home at 12:15 p.m.

The Akron Police Department has identified Chester "Billy" Walker, 53, as a suspect in connection with the homicide, according to authorities.

Walker is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs around 205 pounds.

Akron police said that Walker should be considered armed and dangerous.
